What is a plenary indulgence?
Plenary Indulgence is the remission before God of the temporal penalty for your sins, already forgiven as to guilt, which you, duly disposed and following certain conditions, can obtain through the intervention of the Church. This grace, dispensed authoritatively by the Church, is based on the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints.

How to obtain plenary indulgence?
Basic Conditions:
- Sacramental confession: Confessed to obtain forgiveness of sins.
- Eucharistic Communion: Receive Holy Communion with devotion.
- Prayer according to the Supreme Pontiff’s intentions: Recite specific prayers according to the Pope’s intentions.
Performance of Indulgent Works:
The three conditions above must be fulfilled along with the performance of the indulged work.

Practices for Plenary Indulgence
- Eucharistic Adoration: Visit the Blessed Sacrament and remain in adoration for at least half an hour.
- Prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary: Devotionally recite the Marian Rosary.
- Visit a Shrine: Visit a Shrine and recite an Our Father and a Creed.
- Way of the Cross: Complete the pious exercise of the Way of the Cross.
- Eucharistic Communion: Recite the prayer “Here I am, O my beloved and good Jesus” after communion on individual Fridays of Lent.
- Eucharistic Procession: Devotedly participate in the Eucharistic procession on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.

Visit to the 4 basilicas
During Jubilee 2025, it is mandatory to visit the four major basilicas in Rome to obtain a Plenary Indulgence.
These basilicas are:
- Basilica of St. John
- St. Peter’s Basilica
- Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls
- Basilica of Saint Mary Major

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
- Celebration of Divine Mercy: Participate in the pious practices in honor of Divine Mercy on Divine Mercy Sunday.
- Prayers of supplication and thanksgiving: Join in the solemn singing or recitation of the hymn Veni Creator Spiritus and Te Deum.
- Pardon of Assisi (Portiuncula): Piously visit a parish church on August 2 and recite an Our Father and Creed.
- Consecration of Families and Humankind to Christ the King: Recite the act of consecration on the Solemnity of Christ the King.
- Act of Reparation: Recite the Act of Reparation publicly on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

During Jubilee 2025, there are several special liturgical days when you can obtain a Plenary Indulgence by visiting the Diocesan Shrine or participating in specific practices:

Friday of Lent: Participating in the Stations of the Cross
Divine Mercy Sunday (II of Easter)
Pentecost Sunday: Proclaiming the Veni Creator Spiritus
Corpus Christi: Participating in the Eucharistic Procession
Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: Reciting the Act of Reparation
August 15: Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary
November 2: Commemoration of the Faithful Dead (for the deceased only)
Solemnity of Christ King of the Universe: Reciting the Act of Consecration
Dec. 8: Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
Dec. 31: Remembrance of St. Sylvester: Proclaiming the Te Deum
A day of your choice: Birthday, christening anniversary, wedding, ordination or religious vows
Collective pilgrimage: Participating in a pilgrimage at the Shrine.
