SHRINE OF THE MADONNA OF DIVINE LOVE

OVERNIGHT PILGRIMAGES ON FOOT

Overnight pilgrimages to the Shrine of Divine Love are open to everyone, individuals and groups, and take place on Saturday evenings from the first Saturday after Easter until the last Saturday in October.
No reservations are needed, just show up at the designated place a quarter of an hour before departure (about 11:45 p.m.).

It departs at midnight from Piazza di Porta Capena (Circus Maximus) and arrives at the shrine on foot along Via Appia Antica and Via Ardeatina.
It ends the pilgrimage with the 5 a.m. festive Holy Mass.

The total route is about 15 km.
There is a 30-minute stop midway, with the possibility of using the facilities (chemical toilets).
It is recommended to have: seasonally appropriate sportswear and comfortable shoes; it is advisable to bring water to drink and energy snacks (or even coffee or hot drinks).

Animation and organization of prayer along the walk is by the Shrine’s volunteer group.
Confession with a priest is also planned along the walk.

N.B. Two extraordinary night pilgrimages are also held each year on the most important feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary:

December 7 (eve of the Immaculate Conception)

August 14 (eve of the Assumption)

    Admire its imposing obelisk and the Holy Staircase, which the faithful walk on their knees in penance.
  • From the Basilica of St. John Lateran to the Basilica of the Holy Cross in JerusalemFollow the path to the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, which holds precious relics of the Passion of Christ, including fragments of the Cross.
    This place of worship is an important landmark for pilgrims.
  • From the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem to the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls. Continue to the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls, one of Rome’s seven pilgrimage churches, known for its ancient cemetery and the tombs of St. Lawrence and St. Stephen.
    The interior of the basilica is rich in history and spirituality.
  • From the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls to the Basilica of St. Mary Major Finish the tour at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, one of the most important and ancient churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
    Admire the magnificent 5th-century mosaics and the stunning Sistine Chapel, as well as the crypt that holds the relic of Jesus’ cradle.
